Freshly Ground Coffee

Coffee is where it all started for us, and we still treat every cup like it matters. Our beans are freshly ground to order and pulled by a team who know their extraction from their crema.

Whether you take it as a short, sharp espresso, a silky flat white, a proper cappuccino or a long, easy americano, you’ll get a cup that’s worth slowing down for. Add an extra shot, swap in oat or almond milk, or take it away in a cup for a wander along the estuary.

Velvety Hot Chocolate

If the coffee gets the headlines, our hot chocolate quietly steals the show. It’s deep, rich and genuinely velvety — the sort of mug you wrap both hands around on a blustery Shaldon afternoon.

Have it as it comes, or pile it high with whipped cream and marshmallows. Ask about the salted caramel and mint versions when they’re on, and treat yourself to a slice of cake alongside while you’re at it.

The cake case is one of the most photographed things in the village, and for good reason. Everything is baked in our own kitchen, so what’s on offer changes with the day and the season.

Expect frosted cupcakes, generous traybakes, warm scones and proper big-slice classics — think Victoria sponge, coffee and walnut, lemon drizzle and a chocolate cake that means business. There’s usually a gluten-free bake and something for vegans too, so just ask.

Devon Cream Tea

You can’t run a proper Devon tearoom without a proper cream tea, and ours is a thing of joy: two freshly baked scones, a generous pot of clotted cream, strawberry jam and a pot of loose-leaf tea to pour and linger over.

And yes — this is Devon, so the cream goes on first and the jam on top. We won’t judge if you do it the Cornish way, but we might raise an eyebrow.

Breakfast & Brunch

We open early because breakfast by the sea is one of life’s small luxuries. Start gently with warm toast and good jam, eggs your way, or a bacon bap with a strong coffee — or go all in with a full plate to set you up for the day.

There’s a proper vegetarian breakfast, creamy scrambled eggs, and lighter options like granola and yoghurt when you want something in between. Served through the morning, seven days a week.

Lunch here is unfussy and made to order: toasted sandwiches with proper fillings, a soup of the day with crusty bread, loaded jacket potatoes and fresh sandwiches built the way you like them.

There’s always a vegetarian choice and usually something for vegan and gluten-free diners too. Grab a table with a view of the comings and goings on The Green, or take it away and eat it on the green.

Loose-Leaf Teas

Tea deserves the same care as coffee, so we serve it loose-leaf and by the pot. Choose a classic English breakfast, a fragrant Earl Grey, a fresh green tea, or one of the herbal and fruit infusions when you fancy something caffeine-free.

It’s the natural partner to a slice of cake or a warm scone, and there’s no rush to finish — that’s rather the point.

Afternoon Tea

For a proper treat, book in for afternoon tea. It’s the full works: a selection of finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones with clotted cream and jam, and a tiered stand of our homemade cakes and cupcakes, all served with a pot of tea or coffee.

It’s a lovely way to mark a birthday, a catch-up with friends or simply a slow afternoon by the sea. Please book at least 24 hours ahead so we can bake everything fresh — reserve a table and let us know it’s for afternoon tea.

Wine Bar Light Bites

On Friday and Saturday evenings the café swaps flat whites for wine, and the kitchen sends out a menu of light bites made for grazing. Think warm breads and dips, olives, cheese, charcuterie and a handful of small hot plates that change with what’s good that week.

It’s relaxed, local and unhurried — just the thing with a glass of wine as the light drops over the estuary. See what the wine bar’s all about.

Canapé Plates & Sharing Boards

The centrepiece of our weekend evenings is the sharing board: a generous canapé plate built for the middle of the table, made to pick at slowly over a bottle of wine and good company.

Boards vary with the season, but expect a mix of cured meats, cheeses, marinated bits and pieces, warm bread and a few little treats from the kitchen. Great for two, better for four, and a lovely way to spend a Friday or Saturday night in Shaldon. Booking is recommended — reserve your table.
